There are certain people whose presence lingers long after they have gone, whose light seems to remain in every corner they once touched, and our Shay’s Warriors community lost four of them in the past week. One named Eileen Gianguzi who was a part of our inaugural I AM HOPE Survivors Retreat.
Since leaving the retreat, Eileen became a Shay's Warriors Ambassador, a strong advocate and a volunteer that was one such extraordinary soul. Even when her cancer returned she remained steadfast and determined to talk, listen and share with others her life after cancer journey for the purpose to remind others they were never alone.
And though her battle with cancer was long and arduous, she never let it define her. Instead, she turned every day into a testament to hope, courage, and unwavering positivity. Inspiring her family, friends and all of those who knew her.
Taking her power back at the 2022 survivors retreat
From the very first moment she joined us, at our 2022 I AM HOPE SURVIVORS RETREAT, she radiated curiosity, warmth, and enthusiasm. She brought a contagious energy to every program she attended and each event, uplifting those around her with a smile that seemed to banish even the darkest of days.
No matter how challenging her days were or how heavy the burden was upon her, she still embraced remarkable optimism and never gave up hope. Her laughter was a gentle reminder that joy could always be found, even amid adversity. She lived her life living with cancer in full color! Big. Bold. And beautiful!
I will never forget how hot the retreat was that first year. 111°F to be exact and her hair had not grown back yet so she was wearing a wig. You can imagine that wearing a wig in our desert heat makes you not only itch but melt uncontrollably.
It was at the retreat she felt empowered to take her power back and not only take off the wig, but she reminded herself she was an artist. And the joy in her drawings was something she allowed cancer to take away that she was now ready to embrace again and she never looked back. She was going to live HOPE in color!

After the retreat she gave selflessly—her time, her heart, her endless encouragement—and created the ripple effect of kindness that transformed throughout our community.
Through her compassion and resilience, she taught us what it truly meant to embrace life fully and to offer love without reservation. To look at fear directly in the face and fight for living each day to the max.
Honoring Eileen's legacy through art and gratitude
Though we mourn her loss deeply, we also celebrate the priceless gifts she left behind: the memories of her light, her laughter, and her indomitable spirit, her resilience and most especially, her art.
In remembering her, we find inspiration to carry forward her legacy. We resolve to greet each day with more gratitude, to help others with open hearts, and to cherish every moment we have together. Her positivity lives on in us all, and for that, we are endlessly grateful.
And when we look up into a sunrise or sunset, we will see her beautiful art high in the heavens in every color there is. Because hope lives and WE HOPE IN COLOR.
